The Above and Beyond Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to recognizing and rewarding frontline hospitality workers, pivoted during the pandemic and delivered more than 1,000 grants to workers who lost their jobs.

With group business returning strong in 2021, the organization launched a new grant program, Heroes of Hospitality, providing $2,500 grants for frontline workers who have performed extraordinary acts of service over the past year. This is in addition to Heart of Hospitality, a $10,000 award that recognizes employees who consistently go above and beyond. Applications for this award are submitted by employers.

Many meeting and event planners are looking to integrate a CSR initiative into their program. Supporting this need, the foundation unveiled a new turnkey social responsibility initiative. The Boomerang program invites meeting attendees to nominate on-site hospitality workers who provide outstanding service during the gathering. The audience then votes on all nominations, and winners are recognized with a financial grant and recognized during an awards ceremony at the end of the event.
