This year at IMEX America, Marriott Bonvoy Events™ is proud to sponsor the Neu Project Resilience Room in collaboration with the Google Xi. This room is a dedicated space for recovery from sensory overwhelm, restoration and regulation. Resilience Rooms are designed to foster the physical, emotional, and mental well-being of attendees, providing them with tools and resources to manage fatigue, overwhelm and/or sensory needs. The room, supported by trained staff, serves as a calming retreat where attendees can take a break and renew.
As part of a recent study by Marriott International, PCMA and CEMA, “Designing for Belonging” was identified as one of six principles guiding experience innovation. We found that meetings and events are overall more positive and impactful when everyone in attendance feels a sense of belonging. Knowing that neurodivergent people represent a large portion of the population, we believe it is imperative to create environments that are welcoming to all neurotypes.
The Resilience Room is a serene space designed to minimize overwhelming sensory stimuli, and it’s just one example of how event professionals can accommodate neurodiversity. By approaching the planning process with flexibility, rather than simply expecting attendees to adapt, we encourage more engagement and foster a stronger community.
