Mission of Innocents brings light to Ukrainian refugees in Scotland
More than 40 years ago, Landry & Kling Global Ship Solutions became the first company to specialize in corporate meetings and events on cruise ships. Since then, it has expanded its global service offerings to sourcing long-term vessel charters for special projects such as humanitarian aid.
In 2022, Landry & Kling partnered with the Scottish Government to provide ship-based housing for 2,000-plus Ukrainian refugees who fled their country and migrated to Glasgow and Edinburgh. CEO Joyce Landry relocated to Scotland to manage this program and lived onboard the accommodation vessels alongside the displaced Ukrainians.
During this time, Landry recognized the urgent need to support the socioeconomic well-being of the nearly 800 children. She and her team established Mission of Innocents, a nonprofit organization committed to nurturing the self-worth of children who are displaced from their homes due to war, environmental disasters and political or economic instability. It began offering enrichment programming that encouraged children to express and heal using music, dance, art and sports.
Mission of Innocents continues to provide daily education and activity opportunities to Ukrainian children whose families have resettled in Scotland, even though the accommodation vessels have since departed.
